Teach Children to To Brush Their Teeth and Tips for First Dentist Visit

Taking the kids to the dentist, specially if it’s their first time, could be a nightmare!

In this vlog I give you 5 tips I followed with my 3 and 5 year old on their first visit to the dentist and let me tell you they worked and my kids love going to the dentist.

Going to the dentist regularly is only on step to have healthy dental hygiene, there’s so much we have to do at home and teach our kids when it comes to taking care of your teeth.

Tips to teach kids to brush their teeth the right way

Quality and Timing of Brushing

Kids just want to get it over so unfortunately they don’t brush their teeth long enough, 10 seconds is not enough. Find a way kids can time their brushing, for example make them sing a song that is two minutes minimum which is recommended by the American Dental Association. When they were younger my kids use to practice the ABC’s twice while brushing their teeth, not that they’re 8 & 9 of course they don’t! But I do make sure they brush their teeth for at least 2 minutes, at least 3 times a week I send them back to the bathroom to brush their teeth again! And I’m happy to say they have no cavities!

Even me, I have a hard time flossing because I’m lazy, but I’m making sure my kids do it at least 3 times a week, if you want healthy gums, flossing is the answer.

Make Brushing Teeth Fun!

Even at this age, my boys still get excited when they choose their toothbrush or even toothpaste. Toothbrushes should be replaced every three months, take them shopping for new toothbrushes, they’ll be more excited to brush their teeth if they like their toothbrush and toothpaste.

I recently received The HartFelt 360 Toothbrush for review and we love it! It’s the world’s first 360 degree toothbrush and revolutionizes your brushing experience with unparalleled cleaning power.

The HartFelt 360 Toothbrush

  • Cleans more than twice the amount of plaque than a standard manual toothbrush
  • Effective without the use of toothpaste!
  • Ensures proper brushing

My kids loved the Baby Buddy 360 Toothbrush they say is so soft and very easy to clean all their teeth since is round, I actually saw them enjoy brushing their teeth! HartFelt 360 Toothbrush is for adults which is equally soft.

I totally recommend trying the HartFelt 360 Toothbrush and follow my tips on how to teach kids to brush their teeth the right way.

Got any tips or comments, we love to hear them!

  1. Our first pediatric dentist was a nightmare. He yelled at my daughter and made her cry. Later I found out he had a bad reputation, and that he didn’t like kids. A pediatric dentist that doesn’t like kids sounds like an SNL skit, doesn’t it?

Luckily we found one we love and have been with her for 13 years.

  2. Before visiting the dentist, I talked to my child as honestly as possible about what will happen during the visit and the possible things he might see inside the clinic. I also explained to him why dentists are necessary.:)
